Yesterday was The International Women’s Day and with that came a series of wonderful campaigns and features all around the world celebrating women and highlighting important issues that still need to be tackled the world over. Many companies, individuals, institutions and creatives used their platforms to touch on something concerning women in one way or another. Out of all the ones shared though, one in particular not only caught my eye, and that of many other Kenyans as well, but captivated me in it’s brilliance.

Award winning Kenyan photographer, Osborne Macharia, a self taught commercial and contemporary photographer and director, who is known for his strong, emotive and expressive photography as well as his focus on CGI.

He brought together three women from what he calls the Kenyan League Of Extraordinary Grannies for a photo shoot.

“They were once corporate and government leaders in the 1970’s but are now retired, living the high life, travelling to exotic and remote areas within Africa to explore, party and enjoy themselves in exclusivity.”

According to Macharia’s Behance page, he managed to catch up with 3 of them in Somalia soon after they landed. Apparently, little has been known about them till now.
