The youngest woman in the world to sport a full bear has just been announced as British teaching assistant, Harnaam Kaur. Kaur has had facial hair from a young age. Harnaam has polycystic ovary syndrome, a hormonal condition that can cause excess facial hair in women.
When Kaur was younger, she admitted to waxing her beard up to two times a week, on top of bleaching and shaving. It wasn’t until she was 16 that she decided to embrace her facial hair and start growing out her beard.
The practice of growing one’s hair out, or Kesh, is one of the five central tenets of the Sikh faith, a religion Harnaam happens to practice. Kesh is about respecting for the perfection of God’s creation.

She has since embraced her beard, and gone on to be the first bearded woman to walk on the runway, as well as appearing in countless campaigns.
